No caveats about picking seasons from me, after all, the same thing is just as true about South Park.

It doesn't get better than the first 8-10 seasons of the Simpsons.  I would argue that it was the best sitcom ever.

But if I can't cherry pick the best seasons, I can't pick Simpsons since the following TWO DECADES were complete garbage.  In that case I'd say South Park.  South Park has a bad habit of leaning too hard on shock and potty humor, but it also does the most biting and witty political satire on television.  It is topical and insightful in a way that television so rarely is.  Simpson was better at it's peak, but South Park won the marathon.
