Is better to have and lose a beautiful thing and suffer the grief of its loss, or is it better that it never happened and not know pain?  ?

Job, love, moment, pet, friendship?  Tell me your thoughts and why.

Update:

P—of course we have no choice. Of course we take it in and learn.  But maybe we shy up and protect ourselves because we were hurt, and maybe that stops us from experiencing joy again.

Do you really think that you get a choice. It's often a case of making the best of the situation you're faced with. Learn what you can, and go forward

I have outlived 4 dogs.  It was very painful seeing them go but I loved having them and wouldn't have missed it for the world.

There is no either-or answer to such a question. It depends upon one's cognizance of what has been lost or missed.
