Apology for saying i love you?

Was hanging out with friends and to one of my friend's wife i said, "i love you", while fooling around. She gave me her ice coffee when i mentioned i didn't like the one i ordered yesterday at McDonalds. I accepted her offer and said i loved her, but being friendly as i said it. Wasn't until today my friend called me and told me i betrayed him, offended her, and so on. I told him i was trying to be nice, and I don't have feelings for her.

What's a good way of apologizing for saying the wrong thing?

Yeah that’s inappropriate. Just say sorry you were just being friendly, it didn’t mean anything and you won’t do it again.
