Is "Gojira" supposed to be "Godzilla" with a Japanese accent?

No, "Godzilla" is supposed to be "Gojira" with an American accent. "Gojira" was the name given to the monster when the original movie was first made, and Americans mispronounced it.

"Gojira" is a blend of ゴリラ ("gorira") meaning 'gorilla' and 鯨 ("kujira") meaning 'whale'. It was popularized by the 1954 movie of the same name. In the planning stage of that movie, Godzilla was described as "a cross between a gorilla and a whale".

The famous Japanese monster is called "Gojira" (ゴジラ).
"Godzilla" is just a stupid American English mistransliteration.
