What was the point of destroying the economy over a little flu with the chance of death less then %2?
- Common SenseLv 76 months ago
The alternative was an enormous death rate. Imagine if life went on as usual....chances are that the death toll could have been catastrophic
- tiescoreLv 66 months ago
Because the fatality rate is much higher in older individuals. Young people have over exposed themselves to the virus bringing down the death rates. Individuals 60 and older start at about 8% and climb to over 16%.

The virus has a 98.6% survival rate. A lot of people say the death toll is 150,000, but those numbers are junk. In an effort to run the numbers up, none of the numbers are now believable or factual due to double counting, counting people that died "WITH" and not "FROM" C19. Keep in mind that every year medical mistakes account for over 250,000 deaths, the common flu kills 15-60 thousand, 70,000 more die to drug overdoses, about 35,000 / yr to car accidents, and about 50, 000 people commit suicide every year in the US. No talk of shutting anything down because of those things? Imagine back when the AIDS / HIV epidemic was really killing people (estimates of 500,000 dead) if the government had made it "the law" to wear a condom, or to "track and trace" you and everyone you know if you had it. Do you remember the country shutting down back then? Yeah, me neither. Just like it never shut down for SARS, MRSA, or the Swine flu. I'm not saying that this virus isn't real, it is, but its been blown way out of proportion with a political agenda pushing it. So, to answer your question: If all political parties in the US were genuinely patriotic, then no, there was no reason to crash the economy. But all political parties are not genuinely patriotic, and will take advantage of a crisis to further an agenda, regardless of who gets hurt. So yes, they are doing what they need to do in an effort to further their agenda.

The entire middle class in America is getting crushed, America is in flames, kids are going to bed hungry, massive depression and economic catastrophe coming straight for us, civil war on the horizon, homelessness is sky-rocketing...and what is the government doing...? Oh right, they are chasing germs (which are an inevitable part of life and can't be controlled anyways!).
Covid19 is a hoax. There literally is no other way to say it.

Trump's claim to fame is a good economy. The plan is a bad/ruined economy might keep Trump out of the White House next term. [Politics is dirty business. Good or bad economy people will suffer and die.]

2% of the U.S. would be about 6 million Americans.
The point was to save the lives of (based on your number) about 2000 times as many Americans as died in the 9/11 attacks and over a million times as many as died in the Benghazi incident.

it's not about the death rate.
It's about the ease of transmission and the stress on the healthcare system.
There is less than 2% chance or death if you acquire the illness and the ability for treatment exists
If everyone gets the illness at the same time, the death rate will sky rocket because there isn't the ability to provide treatment to everyone at this point.

Can you put a price on a life (especially if it is a family member)?

The world is overpopulated anyway, right? Or do you want to be able to pick and choose those to eliminate?

2% is still 155,000 deaths and 4 million infected.
You go gamble with your life. Not everyone elses.
