I would say transmission.  Most mechanics learn how to fix them when they are trained, but then avoid getting into it once they are fully licensed.  They will instead send it out to a transmission shop, or just replace it.  I would think that these new 6-10 speed automatic transmission and CVT's would be even worse to work on.

Electronics are always a pain and usually result in far more expense and trouble than you think they will. Wires are hidden and have to be traced. It can get really expensive.

The front wheel drive trans-axle in most modern cars requiring the engine and trans-axle to be dropped out the underside of the car engine bay for removal and differential repair.

A head gasket is a common repair but involves dismantling a lot of the engine. 

Bad design is the biggest problem leading to bad access to commonly replaced parts. The Renault Megane was notorious for having a very inaccessible head light in one side, resulting in a 2-3 hour job to change a bulb giving owners a bill of up to £200.
