people spend A LOT of money to impress others? if so, why? how?

buying top of the line Merceedes for example...is that more to do with the "Status symbol" of owning one or do they really think spending 100,000 on a vehicle makes them happy? how and why?

WHAT THIS SAYS ABOUT THE POWER OF EGO? PEOPLE REALLY REALLY VALUE THEIR EGO?

Some people might do that to impress others, but not everyone.  There is nothing wrong with being able to purchase a car like that, if it is something that you really want and you are financially able to do so.
