Are the Dutch and British royal families the glue that holds each nation (Netherlands and U.K.) together?

Without the royals would the Netherlands and U.K. have no focal point for patriotic loyalty? Same for Sweden and our British Commonwealth dominions?

Constitutional monarchy is considered a unifying force, a power above mere party politics.

No both Royal families are very much respected and loved by a lot of people. But they are most certainly not as you put it the glue that holds each nation togeter.

Yes, in a sense. They provide a constant point of reference for each country, in the way that 'here today, gone tomorrow' presidents never can. Far more interesting than gathering around a flag.
