I'm scared that my old family member will hurt us?

Recently he was striped of his child and there's a restraining order in place. Am I being overdramatic?

It depends on what you mean by "old family member."

Not unless the restraining order was issued to directly protect you.  Because that person is likely the person most at risk.  If you live with that person, you might be under threat, but not if you are merely related.

It's always good to be cautious.  It's a fine line between cautious and over dramatic.  You know his tendencies and how likely he is to do something stupid, so consider all that when making decisions.  If he breaks the restraining order by so much as a foot, photograph the infraction and call the authorities at once..  Bullies will usually back off when they know you'll fight back and fight back wisely with law on your side.
