If India claimed the Indian Ocean in an attempt to counter China's claims in the South China Sea, would it help even the balance of power ?

Update:

You guys do realise we need a stronger India in the Asia-Pacific region to counterbalance China, right?

you need to get the facts right , Indian ocean is not owned by India ,and is close to india ,many countries share indian ocean , while south china sea belong to china ,So china has the jurisdiction over south china sea ,because it links china and Taiwan ,yet Taiwan has been china's inherent territory since the ancient time ,you can't compare indian ocean with south china sea ,although india is on track to become one of top 3 economies in the world ,and its influence is increasing ,

but I think that if india want to stir up conflict on the indian ocean ,then it is digging its own grave ,china ranked top three in terms of number of conventional submarine ,and china has more advanced missile than India ,what's more ,many advanced fighter jets such as J-20 has entered service ,even if the fighter hasn't entered mass production ,I heard from the internet that 50 fighter jet will be produced each year,

,besides  china has more three-generation advanced fighter jet than india

India would have trouble claiming the "Indian" Ocean as it is international waters and the claim would be recognized by no country. Also, India lacks the military power to back that claim.

No. Many nations border the Indian Ocean. Even in the years when the British Empire was at its zenith, they couldn't stop other empires from having free movement there. Besides, the Indian Ocean is huge compared to the South China sea.   The closest parallel is with the USA in the Caribbean.

--  The Indian Ocean is far away from the South China Sea. Also, China does not border the Indian Ocean as India does not have a border with the South China Sea. Therefore your question is irrelevant.

Actually your question is a clever one, imagine how the Chinese would react if the Indian Navy harassed Chinese warships for sailing in it as the Chinese do in the South China sea.

"IF India claimed ... would it help" makes your question speculation about the present day. It's not a History question.
