find the voltage and current between point A and B?

1. What is the open circuit voltage between Points A and B?

2. If Points A and B are now connected together, what current would flow between them?

    use voltage divider formula

    Va = 10.3(18)/(18+4.7) = 8.96 v

    Vb = 10.3(0.82)/(0.82+6.8) = 1.11 v

    Va–Vb =  7.85 v

    connected together, first make each pair into thev. equivalent

    left: R12 = 4.7•18/(18+4.7) = 3.73 kΩ

           V = Va = 8.96 v

    right: R34 = (0.82•6.8)/(0.82+6.8) = 0.73 kΩ

           V = Vb = 1.11 v

    when connected you have a voltage of Va–Vb and resistance of

    R12+R34

    and I = E/R = (Va–Vb) / (R12+R34) = 7.85/4.46 = 1.76 mA

    1)

    Va = 10.3*18/(18+4.7) = 8.17 V

    Vb = 10.3*8.2/(8.2+6.8) = 5.63 V 

    Vab = 8.17-5.63 = 2.54 V

    2)

    Vab = 0
