A Dish Washer is really good at sanitizing things, however, NOT everything is Dish Washer safe.  I hand wash; pots/pans, baking pans and teflon/plastic utensils.

Dishwasher will get them cleaner, more sanitized.  The high heat will kill germs and bacteria.

In water usage, hand-washing uses a 1 inch tap at full blast to wash and rinse every single plate and fork and whatever else. In the dishwasher, that 1 inch tap is split over 12 1cm nozzles. You are using 12 times more water, at least, by washing by hand. In comparison, imagine using a waterfall to mist a parakeet, and paying for the extra wasted water.

Personal technique can vary either both ways but if you're not generally an idiot, a dishwasher is so much easier and more efficient. Plus, the main point made is the dishwasher get so much hotter than tapwater can get or than your hands can stand if it did. That kills bacteria. Bacteria that you may have put on a plate that wasn't there from eating after you used a sponge you've been soaking in ecoli chicken juice for 5 months now.

When you wash dishes by hand you have to wash every inch of every item & spend some time standing at the kitchen sink.  A dish washer does all that for you. & the heat from dishwasher kills germs & bacteria.

The reason the dishwasher was invented by Josephine Garis Cochran, a 19th century hostess who frequently held large dinner parties,  was because she wanted her dishes washing quicker than they could be done by hand and more importantly to be washed without getting chipped. (It wasn't that her maids were clumsy, even Mrs Cochran couldn't wash up without damaging her china.)  The Modern domestic appliances are not necessarily fast (commercial ones are) but they are able to wash at higher temperatures than hand washing can manage.
