Why do old curmudgeons seem to be more easily triggered by cats than dogs?

Years ago, my uncle's cat was staying with my grandparents and he knocked down one of my grandfather's Kachina dolls with his tail. My grandfather was furious, and yelled "SKIN THAT G-- D--- CAT!" But he seems to be more patient with dogs.

My mom says my great-grandfather (other side) was like that too, and always told cats to get away.

I'd think they'd be less tolerant with dogs since dogs tend to be more "in your face" than cats, and cats have more respect for personal space. But my mom thinks maybe they think of cats as being mischievous.

I find that maybe or fashioned conservative people prefer dogs becuase they trust them to be man's best friend and are a pure symbol. Whereas cats are mischievous little rebels and maybe considered as bad apples.
