Is it necessary to do hand postures while doing meditation?

I have my hands placing still to my knees while meditating but I see people have their hands doing meditating postures. Is that suppose to be a religious thing? I'm confused. I know there's different types of meditations but is it okay if I do only one single meditating position that makes me feel comfortable?

    One being "comfortable" is necessary when meditating.

    There is no RULE which prevents amputees with NO HANDS from meditating.

    If you can't clear your mind sitting up, try laying down and get real comfortable.
