Can you do a DNA test at the hospital when baby is born ?

And if so is it free at the hospital

It is not free.  And it's almost always done by private lab, not your hospital.  You would put in the request, pay out of pocket, and get the test.

Only your hospital can tell you that. Conditions vary in hospitals across the world, and we have no idea where you live.

Nothing is free at the hospital... even if you are covered by Medicaid, someone is paying for it. There's no reason why you couldn't arrange for a DNA test when the baby is born while you are still at the hospital, but I kinda doubt it'll be free.

Definitely not free, and unless the hospital has the right kind of lab equipment (unlikely) then the hospital would not be able to process the sample or give you your test results. Any kind of DNA testing generally involves sending samples off to a specialized lab.

What the hospital staff could *maybe* do is help you with the kit instructions and make sure you do the sampling swabs correctly, but then you'd have to package up the samples and ship them yourself. But I imagine the mother would have to be okay with the would-be-father doing all of this, because she and the baby are admitted patients whereas the father is not. If mom decides she doesn't want dad anywhere near her or baby for as long as they're there, she can have him booted out.

NO, it is definitely not free. Anywhere.
