What is the meaning of 'Royalty Retention'? ?

    This question is not about royalty, the monarchy and peerage. It is about money, and a financial practice.

    Royalty, in this case, means  a payment made by one party to another that owns a particular asset, for the right to ongoing use of that asset.

    Retaining royalties means holding back some money. For a complete picture, one would need to see legal agreements pertaining to payments.

    As already answered - but this has NOTHING to do with the Royalty section.   Maybe Literature?

    Depends on the context, and jurisdiction, but it is a mechanism whereby publishers can hold back paying royalties to an artist or owner of the work until they have recovered their own outlay for producing, distributing and selling it.
