Why believe in a god just because a book tells you to?

If I wrote a book saying worship the Super Mario Bros. would you do so?

I would imagine everyone would have a different reason for that. They clearly get something from it but I'll never understand the point of following a book that has been re-write, was written years after the fact and no one can prove is even true. Some of the stories are rather ridiculous and don't depict the kind of God I'd want to follow.

But I just live and let live.

Why not believe because someone told you not to?

Some people have faith in their book.  It's part of their personal spirituality.  And .. not to be rude .. it's none of your business.  Religion is personal business.  Personally, I think organized religions are a scam.  But I allow others to enjoy their spirituality in whatever way pleases them because it's not my concern.

No i wouldn't. Many people feel like believing in a religions god is a comfort, like a security blanket.
