Art History discussion! Need some ideas and thoughts!?

Why do you think some artists are remembered more than others? Why did Michelangelo's "genius" remain heralded throughout the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries whereas Caravaggio and Bernini faded from international acclaim?

The simple answer is that the public loved the works of some artists more than they did others.

Caravaggio never faded from MY acclaim, bubba. Even if he hadn't been a brilliant painter, you'd still have to admire how many times he successfully skipped town to avoid paying his gambling debts before one of his creditors finally caught up with him and ventilated him in 72 places with a sword.
