Afraid that?

A. He was afraid that his friends might not believe his story.

B. He was afraid his friends might not believe his story.

Can "that" after "afraid" be omitted? Thanks!

In English it can be omitted without changing the meaning yes. In several other languages omitting it would make the phrase meaningless

In normal speech, version B is almost always used.

It can be omitted but it will not change the meaning.

He said (that) he was writing a story.
