Why is my budgie biting itself ?

It’s not trying to harm itself it’s just biting it’s feathers and scratching it’s head

    That's called preening. As the new feathers come in the shell around the feathers dries and birds nibble the dry portion away to expose the new feathers.

    Mites!! Get a mite treatment and treat the poor thing.
