Trade brand is more expensive and a generic is much cheaper.

    The brand.

Pharmaceutical companies often get a monopoly on new medication so they can earn back the research-investments. Once the monopoly expires, other companies can produce the same medication and will sell it at a lowered price

Tylenol is a brand name for acetaminophen.   Only one company makes it.    A generic brand is simply acetaminophen and a bunch of companies make it.    Generic drugs are cheaper however you are far more likely to get a dangerous Chinese version than if you stick with Tylenol.

No difference, they are chemically identical.

Tylenol 3 is a brand name.  It is Codeine/paracetamol also known as codeine/acetaminophen and co-codamol,. Seven strengths are available (see ref).

In theory, in general, generic is same as brand name. Some users report differences, but they are in the minority.
