Update:

    Here a few hints... You need to try to solve it your self or you won't understand it... hopefully others will not  just work it out for you...

    Since  x ≠ 0,  4x ≠ 0,  and  5x ≠ 0  also

    multiply the entire  equation by   20x  to get rid of  all fractions....

    e.g  ( 1 / 4x +  5 ) * 20x  = 5  + 100x   for  a start  ... you do the other side....

    then  collect like terms to one side, constants to the other,  and  solve for  x

    1/4x - 1/5x=16-5

    => 1/20x=11

    => 220x=1

    => x=1/220

    Hopefully ok.

    1/4x=1/5x+11

    x/20=11

    x=11*20

    x=220

    1/4x + 5 = 1/5x + 16

    1/20x = 11

    x = 220

    put X = 1/x then it becomes

    X/4 + 5 = X/5 + 16

    5X + 100 = 4X + 320

    X = 220

    x = 1/220

    (1/4)X + 5 = (1/5)X + 16

    Step 1.  Multiply both sides by 20 to remove fractions.

    5X + 100 = 4X + 320

    Step 2. Subtract 100 from both sides

    5X = 4X + 220

    Step 3 Subtract 4X from both sides

    X = 220

    As written, I'm presuming that is:

    (1/4)x + 5 = (1/5)x + 16

    To solve this, I'll first multiply both sides by the LCD (20) to get rid of the fractions:

    5x + 100 = 4x + 320

    Now, this is something you should be able to finish on your own if you have questions like this.

    If the x's are in the denominators, or even more important, the + constants in the denominator, you need to show that in a set of parenthesis so we know what exactly the question is.

    is that (1/4)x or 1/(4x) ??

    is that (1/5)x or 1/(5x) ??
