At what age is it too old for a woman to try for a baby ?

The risk of birth defects increases geometrically beyond 35 but there is no age that is too old.

That depends on how they're trying, as well as their physical, financial, and emotional health. A 74 year old has managed to give birth to twins with medical and technological help.
My personal opinion is that 40 is a good cut off age, but up to 45ish is acceptable with lots of planning and consideration.
