You can do a number analysis.   Covid seems to have a 1% fatality rate.    The Black Death was at least 30% fatal.   However sanitation and medical care back then are not what we have today so you are comparing a disease where people did not know the cause and did not know how to treat to one that we pretty much have figured out.
