Cell-signaling pathway question?
Hormones tend to be present in very low concentrations in the body. However, cells have evolved to respond to low concentrations of these molecules by evolving cell signaling pathways that amplify the signal from the plasma membrane. Make an informed prediction: One Mungonian signaling pathway includes three protein kinases while another pathway includes six kinases. Which one of the two pathways would be better at amplifying a signal? Explain your answer.

Assuming that the activity of each kinase is similar, a pathway with 6 kinases will ultimately amplify the original signal much more than the pathway with 3 kinases. This is because at each step, the amount of amplification is similar. So, the pathway with 6 kinases will expand the original signal several orders of magnitude more than the pathway with 3.
