300 wins is the Gold Standard for a starting pitcher in the Hall of Fame. Schilling is basically one season past 200 wins. 

Also, didn't he own Rhode Island something like $75 million?

For reasons that have nothing to do with the game. Today's baseball writers are leftists first and baseball writers second.

To whoever said Schilling's stats come up short - your knowledge of the game is sorely lacking.

Schilling stands 15th all-time in career strikeouts and 8th all-time in career strikeouts to walks ratio.  Critics will look at his career wins, 216, and say it wasn't enough, while ignoring that this is good for 86th place all-time, that he got those wins in the era of the relief specialist, and that several HOFers who played in the era of starters going the distance have fewer wins and strikeouts. And that his career losses, 146, stands in 179th place.  That is a differential of 93+.

Baseball writers, well, most press folks, are liberal democrats, and Schilling doesn't fit their narrative politically. So, it hurts him in voting. That being said, his record is borderline HOF anyway.
