Dancers/dance mums: how many hours of ballet do you/your child do per week?

My daughter is 12 years old and does 3x 1hr.15min ballet, 1x 30min pointe, 1x 30min variations and 1x 1hr open ballet a week.

That’s a fine schedule for a recreational ballet dancer. Glad to see she is taking at least three technique classes a week before attempting pointe work although a standard ballet class is considered to be 90 minutes not 75.

    * At age 12 I believe my daughter took around 15 hours of ballet technique classes a week plus one hour of character dance. Pointe work wasn’t a separate class but 15 minutes at the end of a ballet technique class to start. Her school didn’t allow pointe work until age 12/13.

Everything changed at age 13 when she took 20 plus hours a week year round of ballet technique classes, an hour of character dance, an 90 minute modern class and an hour of both variations classes and Pas de deux classes weekly.
