If you have a SMLE that doesn't have a wandering zero, you're good to go for most game in the lower 48.

I have hunted bear and deer and I used .30-30 and .30-06 bullets. Lee
Enfield is a tough gun. The Enfield will shoot either of these bullets and
also shoot .270 if your barrel is clean.

The Lee Enfield is equivalent to 30-06, which is enough for deer, elk, black bear, and similar game. A 30-06 with premium bullets is enough for moose in most places, but 338 or bigger isn't a bad idea either. The 303 British cartridge has been supplanted over the years with more modern offerings and there are more rifles offered in 30-06, 308 Win and 7mm Rem Mag than the Lee or others using that 303 cartridge. The 303 isn't supported as well with premium loads and bullets, so that normally means handloading for best results.
If you have a good shooting L-E, it's fine for deer and African plains animals, but not something to use when what you hunt might want to hunt you back and make you a snack or grease spot.
