Is having $100,000 at age 26 average?

Depends where you live, but it is close to double the national average. I made about that much at 26, maybe a little less but probably equal if you count inflation.
In Orange County, CA it is barely above the poverty line. Same goes for New York and San Francisco. You could get by with it in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston, but still struggle. Elsewhere, it is more than enough but atypical.
