Is it legal to have an owl as a pet in California ?

I always wanted an owl.

    Not without a special permit.  Look into a raptor rescue organization, maybe you can get the training and maybe rescue an owl.

    I believe you need a permit to keep wildlife in California.

    Native owls, no, not without a permit. Exotic owls might be allowed but you would have to check local laws. They can be pretty weird.
