I don't understand what a "dark house hole" is, Jerry. Can you explain?

As you explained it, you have to cut through the thin ice layer that forms It will never be as thick as the original so easy with a hatchet or small shovel. You would have to leave it all winter for it to get thick again. It will always be there...as a thin spot. It will never be liquid water until it is all liquid water then your ice fishing outhouse has sunk.
