Why was the Queen's film script about her ex butler, who was queer, a crossdresser and married to a man who was murdered turned down ?
Rumour has it that it was considered far fetched.

There were two main reasons the script was rejected. Firstly, some of the material about the ex-butler's early life - the war heroism and the extensive University education - turned out to be fantasy. Secondly, the film was unlikely to be successful in the lucrative American market - Americans demanding sympathetic lead characters and having a particular dislike for stolen valour.

It was scrapped because it turned out to be too boring, at the premiere celebrities were coughing up blood they were so bored to watch a film about a sevarants troll, so it never got released to cinema.
