It's not just black people saying that.  It became popular because people are sheep.

It has nothing to do with black people. There are videos on YouTube. Trump unfortunately encouraged people to act badly. Women started to be caught on camera yelling at people- mostly Hispanics and Black people. I don't know why everyone started calling them "Karen", but it's become a whole thing. They usually have a certain blonde hairdo, are a little overweight, and are very, very angry. There's one you can find of a woman on the beach yelling at some people because they're playing music with words in Spanish. Her husband seems to be trying to pull her away, but she keep yelling at them. There's another of a woman hitting a Hispanic girl in a store because she wasn't happy with the service.

Usually it refers to a person who calls the police for stupid reasons, like selling water without a license, if the person she calls the police on is black and she is white it is assumed she's a racist.
