Why are California and New York extremely expensive states to live in with large number of homeless people?

Densely populated states with high demand for housing and services. It's the same in  similar hubs of activity throughout the world. Of course, the average income is also higher.

High taxes and poor policies. Democrat run states cater to democrat politicians and not the peasants the democrats create.

Capitalism....As the tech community moves in, with their $100,000 plus to million dollar salaries, property values go up and low wage workers are pushed out 

Now those same people are flocking to Texas, same industries as well. Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Houston  will be LA in another decade

I don't know what the attraction for New York is. California has it all, the desert, the mountains and the ocean.
