It's possible if you get tested too early after you were exposed.
If you've had cold sores (HSV1) for a while then it's not likely to be a false positive.
HSV1 usually causes cold sores on the mouth and they're very common to have. Most people are usually more worried about getting genital herpes (HSV2) then cold sores.

Nobody cares when half the general population has a positivity rate for herpes type 1.
"How many people in the US have herpes? HSV-1 and HSV-2 are both known to cause genital herpes. It is estimated that, in the United States, 47.8% of people aged 14–49 have HSV-1, while 11.9% of Americans in the same age group have HSV-2 (Herpes Simplex Virus, 2017)."
If you don't have it now then eventually you will have it so a false positive blood test or even a true positive blood test means nothing out of the ordinary. It's basically normal to be exposed to herpes type 1. A few have recurrent outbreaks while some don't.
