What's the difference between a gold digger and a women who judges a man based on his income?

The higher his income the more she'll date him.

The second woman earns her own and wants to make sure he's not going to be a drag on her.

So my guess is that a "gold digger" is after the money and on the hunt for the money and a woman who "judges" a man based on his income desires, or is accustomed, or is capable of providing for herself, a particular lifestyle and intends to design her life accordingly. And that includes a choice of spouse.

One is judgmental and the other specifically seeks out men to date that have more money than others. The first one will most likely not go for certain men but the gold digger will make an effort to go out with rich men.

Gold digger is about right now, a woman who doesn't like a guy much but will pretend to like him so as to turn HIS money into HER money. That's a very different thing from "I don't want to get serious about a guy who doesn't have a decent income, how doesn't have a positive career path."

Dating someone with significantly less income than yourself can be problematic. If you want to do something together, something that involves costs, the only way to do it is to cover all the costs yourself. If you're paying for dinners and shows while your date can barely afford to take you out for an ice cream, it doesn't usually work out. It's not unreasonable to not want to get serious about a guy who can't do the things you like to do unless you pay his way.

This is gender neutral. It's reasonable for a gentleman to not want to get serious about a lady who can't contribute financially to shared outings.
