Is it right that people defend Prince Charles against his detractors? Is it also right that people defend Diana against her detractors?

Both very human. Their marriage failed because they were basically incompatible. He expected to grow into love, as royals generally do expect. But she needed more attention than he could give her. He was brought up cold. So they started quarreling very early.  All very tragic.

It's perfectly fine for anyone to defend either one of them.

Why on earth wouldn't it be?

It's also fine for anyone to criticize either one of them.

Of course it is, we all know that that pompous oaf, Charles, can do no wrong. He thought so much about Diana, that he insisted on her calling him "Sir", right up to the time of their engagement, while the hag that he was seeing on the side, called him Charles. He made fun of her Bulimia at an official banquet, by telling other guests that "it (the food) won't stay down long" and thought he was quite funny in saying it. After he dies, I can see him becoming St Charles, very quickly.

the problem with some of the royalists is that no matter what a member of the royal family has done they will say its not true even if they know it is. Any newcomers like Diana or Fergie (non royals) will be criticised even if they don't deserve it.

It is not right that people should be detracting at all, at least not on this site.

It is right to tell all sides of the story. Both Diana and Charles were culpable for the failure of their marriage. People who fail to tell the entire story are the ones who look ridiculous, leaving out information in order to make their chosen person look better than the other.

You can't defend Charles without omitting damning facts. It's easy to defend anyone if you cut parts of the story out. I can defend Diana without deliberately leaving bits out. If it's all in the past then stop defending Charles with white lies. Claims such as "they both had affairs" and "Diana put it about too" with no elaboration are making it sound like they were both as bad as each other but, that is not true because Charles did it first.

  • People who defend Prince Charles just make themselves look ridiculous.

And again, how many years has it been since all this happened?

It's beyond time for everybody to leave this where it belongs - IN THE PAST.

The only wrong about any of this is the fact that Mountbatten and the Queen Mother, both now long dead, decided that Diana was the person who should marry Charles and neither Charles nor Diana had the sense not to go ahead with this plan.
