In WW1 they fought because prime ministers, kings, czar, Kaiser wanted to either create a new global hegemony or to preserve the old one, and were too willing to forfeit boring diplomacy and go straight to glorious warfare costing millions of lives.
For WW2 they fought to stop pure evil: Hitler and Nazism.

They were told to fight and so they must follow orders. Moreover, with the enemy in front of them, how can they not fight.

In principle, their freedom. An opposing country was going to occupy or take control of them. In reality, their life. Each and every soldier simply just had to survive. Worse, historically, both wars started with one affluent person getting pissed off by another.

it was a battle for freedom and basic human rights. WW2 was about stopping Hitler from ruling the world.

Must be liberal uneducated college students.
FREEDOM is the keyword. Do you believe that Hitler and Tojo would let you speak your mind on Y!A.
