Why was the length of the war so hard on the morale of the soldiers during ww1?

    You answered your q. The longer the war the harder it is on morale.

    How long do you think you would have lasted in combat? And even if you were somehow to survive, do you think you'd be the same person after the war? Even with the rotation system most of the combatant nations were using at the time, it was still terribly grueling.

    War lasted over 4 years.  Average life of soldier in the trench was 6 weeks.  You do the math
