Even though tomatoes have been scientifically labeled as fruit, tomatoes are actually vegetables. And they are used as vegetables. Some have even claimed the vegetable cucumbers as being fruit. And similar claims about another vegetable, bell peppers, being fruit.

Tomatoes are fruits that are considered vegetables by nutritionists. Botanically, a fruit is a ripened flower ovary and contains seeds. Tomatoes, plums, zucchinis, and melons are all edible fruits, but things like maple “helicopters” and floating dandelion puffs are fruits too.

It is a fruit used as a vegetable. I do not know why the tomato confuses so many people this way, it is far from unique.

It's a fruit.
It's ''the fleshy part of a plant that contains the seeds that can produce another plant''.
Vegetables are ''the other parts'' of a plant .. the leaves (spinach) the roots (carrots) the stem (asparagus) or the seeds themselves (peas)

Botanically, a fruit, but utilized as a veggie. Same with cucumbers and zucchinis, as those are technically fruits, as well. A fruit is defined as the usually edible reproductive body of a seed plant, so avocados and pumpkins fall into this category, too.
