what made investors decide to start selling on Black Thursday in Oct. 1929? was there some recent news about something? what?

I mean people knew that it was soon to crash? or were they completely caught off guard? there had been very obvious signs that the economy was slowing down a lot and that they were way way over invested? why, how they kept piling into the markets then if so?
