Often, the person is really asking if teachers get paid summers off. That's a hard no. Bust that myth right now. Most teacher contracts cover a set number of work days from late-August to May/June.

If by summer, you mean ~June 21 to ~Sept 20, no most teachers don't that off.

If you mean do the teachers have to work while the students are on summer break. For the most part no, but in many places they have to work a little before and a little after the students start and end which usually works out to 7-9 weeks not working depending on the school schedule. But there are some places with year-round school where the teachers will work all year but have certain week or two long breaks with the students.

And because they are not working, they don't get paid (although some places will spread out the pay)

At the school district I work for, I believe the teacher's year starts about 1 week before school starts and it ends about a week after school is out. They then get the summer off, but some teachers may opt to teach summer school.

In theory yes, but many teachers do work throughout the summer prepping for the following year, cleaning up from previous year or teaching summer school. 

They also aren’t paid for their summer off.
