How do you figure out that anyone who goes to Britain can be British. Because they are not. It's the same as saying that anyone who goes to America is American when they are not.

You cannot become British simply by going there.
The British, like people in other nations, are naturally proud of their interesting history and their nation's achievements, which are significant. Why shouldn't they be? Most countries offer things of which their citizens can be proud.

Many people in western countries are not proud of their countries any more. Once you lose your culture what's to be proud of?

What about the Brits who hate people (of the old Empire) who were far more respectful of the monarch than they were. Elizabeth II is (still) seen by citizens, be they from Kingston or Brixton as someone to be cultivated and celebrated rather than reviled or rejected?

There are many who are proud to support Manchester United - but would never leave where they live (mostly the South East of England) - work that one out
Wasn't 'proud Brit' John Amery (1912-1945), recruited by the Nazi party during the 2nd World War?

We are proud to be British because of the Nations achievements over many centuries as is the case with many great Nations. But this can only apply to those whose families have been here for centuries. My Mothers Amery ancestor came across from Tours in France in 1086 and they have been here ever since. But there are many places in the world that used to be a part of the great British Empire and people from those countries who come to live in the UK have a built in connection love of us and of their Queen.

That's not how things work at all.

Perhaps its for that very reason -- that anyone who is accepted as a British citizen is, more than in many countries , accepted as being equal under the law .
