How long are you supposed to leave fluoride on your teeth ?

I went to the dentist to get a check up on my teeth and at the end of it I got fluoride put on my teeth. They didn’t tell me how long I was supposed to leave it on, but I took it off in an hour. Will it still be effective to my teeth?

    ...Not a single second! There is no good in fluoride.
